He is best known for his paintings that resemble flame-like brush strokes or shapes. Inspired by the windswept landscape of the Canadian prairie, he developed a technique of applying thick layers of paint onto the canvas using a palette knife, creating jagged flares of dark tones against lighter areas of yellows, oranges, and reds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"210\" height=\"229\" src=\"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/aleksandarjones\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9753\/2019\/11\/4E31AE36-EB7A-4B96-9D6A-08920C9EB0AA.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-141\" \/><figcaption>Untitled, Clyfford Still 1959<br>https:\/\/www.wikiart.org\/en\/clyfford-still<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Clyfford Still began to quickly see national recognition. His paintings were embraced by other artists and critics, who considered Still to be one of the most original artist of the time.
