Not much is known about his personal life, but he was born in Castelfranco Veneto, Italy and attended the Venetian Art School where Giorgione became a apprentice of Giovanni Bellini and learned how to paint. Giorgione was one of the great influences for Italian Renaissance painting, as the way he used colour to bring about subtle expressions and create various moods helped bring his paintings to life. Great masters like Titian, Palma Vecchio, and Lorenzo Lotto were greatly influenced by Giorgione and at times imitated his style to the point where it was difficult to confirm who’s work belonged to their respective owner. Giorgione’s works closely resembled the late style of his teacher Giovanni Bellini.

After seeing Giorgione’s works, I can definitely agree that his use of color combined with complex landscapes truly do make a enriched and colorful atmosphere. Using The Tempest by Giorgione as a example, the painting seems soft and evokes a air of romanticism or serenity. I especially love the landscape done in this painting, as the air of serenity is greatly emphasized with the use of warm greens and yellows for the bridge and houses.

The Tempest

(1506-1508) Oil on Canvas, (83cm x 73cm), Gallerie dell’Accademia, Venice

https://pixels.com/featured/the-tempest-giorgione.html

Sleeping Venus

(1510) Oil on Canvas, (108.5cm x 175cm) , Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Dresden

The Sleeping Venus was actually done by Giorgione and Titian, as Titian continued the work after Giorgione’s death.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Giorgione_-_Sleeping_Venus_-_Google_Art_Project_2.jpg

Judith

(1504) Panel with Oil, (144cm x 66.5cm), Hermitage, Saint Petersburg

http://www.italianways.com/judith-and-holofernes-in-italian-16-th-century-art/

The Three Philosophers

(1509) Oil on Canvas, (123cm x 144cm), Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Three_Philosophers

citation:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venetian_school_(art)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giorgione

https://www.britannica.com/biography/Giorgione

https://www.biography.com/people/giorgione-9312209

Self Portrait of Giorgione (Autoritratto) (1510) Oil on Canvas, (52cm x 43cm), Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum, Braunschweig, Germany Giorgione is a famous painter that is considered one of the masters of the Early Renaissance period.
