Often known as Canada\u2019s first design guru, Allan Fleming was a key designer in bringing Modernism to the country. He\u2019s most well-known for his logo for the Canadian National Railway, or CN, which was acclaimed as one of the top 50 corporate logos at one point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His first breaking point as a designer was the work he had done for Cooper & Beatty Typesetters (C&B), which resulted in international recognition, notably from huge design firms such as AIGA and New York Art Directors Club. Some of Fleming’s advertisements for C&B were focused on the history and practice of typography. He contributed not only to its design but the writing for those as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s clear that Fleming’s keenness for typography not only stands out as merely loving to draw letterforms and calligraphy but knowing how to incorporate these skills into ads which often added a \u2018funny and flashy\u2019 tone, attracting many of the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
