Depending on an individual\u2019s beliefs, they may have a different idea of what the afterlife looks like. For instance, Hinduism believes in the idea of reincarnation, which is that an individual\u2019s soul is born into another body after death. In Ancient Egypt, they solely relied on The Book of the Dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"733\" height=\"413\" src=\"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/angelicablanch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13244\/2021\/10\/Brooklyn-Museum-BOTD-papyrus_WL.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/angelicablanch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13244\/2021\/10\/Brooklyn-Museum-BOTD-papyrus_WL.jpeg 733w, https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/angelicablanch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13244\/2021\/10\/Brooklyn-Museum-BOTD-papyrus_WL-300x169.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 733px) 100vw, 733px\" \/><figcaption><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arce.org\/resource\/book-dead-guidebook-afterlife\">Page from the Book of the Dead from Brooklyn Museum<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Before historians were able to piece together the meaning behind the book, they assumed the writings were \u201cpassages from ancient scripture.\u201d However, according to World History, The Book of the Dead details the \u201csurvival of bodily death,\u201d and the \u201cpromise of eternal life.\u201d Furthermore, Historian Margaret Bunson further details the book to also be an \u201c[instructions to] the deceased [on] how to overcome the dangers of the afterlife.\u201d Originally written for the Pharoah\u2019s, the Book of the Dead eventually was passed onto regular Egyptians, hence why each book is specifically catered to one\u2019s life. By the 12th Dynasty, the inscriptions, including illustrations, were \u201cwritten on papyrus and placed in tombs.\u201d According to the American Research Center in Egypt, spells were even found on \u201cmummy wrappings\u201d and \u201cinside King Tut\u2019s golden mask.\u201d&nbsp; From then, the Egyptians mainly used papyrus to document the spells and inscriptions of the Book of the Dead. Papyrus was created from papyrus plants, which were then layered and pressed together and could be as long as 100 feet long.
