The lyrics touch on traditional practices prohibited by the Indian Act, a sense of resentment from the Indigenous communities about those restrictions, and steps that are being taken by Indigenous peoples of this generations to put their faces back on their territories &#8211; a culture revival &#8211; where being Indigenous isn&#8217;t viewed as being less than human, or something to be ashamed of (like my grandparents were raised to believe).
