At a time when visual perspective in art was first developed and beginning to be implemented into the works of artists, Uccello is considered to have advanced the techniques of perspective further than what had been seen before. Uccelo was fascinated by perspective, and he was known to have been constantly studying and refining his craft. His painting employed extreme perspective foreshortening, the likes of which were unseen at the time. Lances on the ground are pointed back towards the vanishing point; and a fallen soldier shows an example of the very difficult foreshortening that Uccello applied in his works. Uccello is remembered as a forerunner and inspiration to many of the great artists who would come after him.
