What can ePortfolio initiatives offer higher education? This session will provide an overview of current research and best practices informing course- and program-level portfolios initiatives in post-secondary education with a particular on the readings and conversations that informed the gatherings of the Folio Thinking Campus Learning Community and Spring 2017 ePortfolio Development Community this past academic year. This session will be of interest to colleagues interested in course- and program-level portfolio projects and the basics of getting started with “folio thinking”. Participants will leave with a toolkit of suggested readings and resources that have been test driven by the presenters.

In Spring 2017, Capilano’s first-ever ePortfolio Development Community, which included ten instructors from three Faculties and two campuses, undertook a term-long curriculum redesign project with the objective of embedding folio thinking and digital portfolios into CapU eight courses. The redesigned courses will be delivered for the first time in the 2017/18 academic year. This round table presentation will open with a brief overview of the community’s redesign process followed by progress reports from the development community participants as they prepare to teach their newly revised courses in the upcoming academic year. Session participants will leave with examples of course-based portfolio assignments and resources for getting started on their own redesign adventures.

What does a student portfolio look like? What does a faculty portfolio look like? What does a course-based portfolio look like? What does a program-based portfolio look like? What does a combination of the above the look like? What motivates, excites, and inspires portfolio makers? And more. This session feature presentations from Capilano students and faculty who have embarked upon process of building out digital portfolios over the past year. Participants will be exposed to the variety of approaches and motivations – academic and personal – that drive and inform the portfolio process.
