Where do we stand right now, and where are we headed in the future? Since you all are the upcoming generation that will lead the world, it is important that you all try your best, to be there for one another, and be mindful of what you do and say, because it all has an impact on your community. Humans are meant to be social creatures who are evolved to use their intelligence to innovate and help one another. You will all need to come together and develop ways to build each other a bright future. Some goals will be to figure out a definitive solution to climate change, end world poverty, reduce crime, find a better treatment towards drug addiction, solve discrimination and racism, improve our education system, prevent suicide, and there are so many more issues you will all be faced with. Remember it is you, you are the only person that can make this world a better place, and you are the only person who can mess this world up. The reason I say this, is because if you put your responsibilities on to someone else, then you all will eventually end up with the same negative mindset. Some of you may have thought to yourself in the past: “If I don’t pick up that piece of trash, somebody else will”, or “If I don’t give that homeless person some food someone else will”. These are simple examples of how our future, YOUR future, could deteriorate based on how we think collectively as one big community. You all must work together in order to build a brighter future for yourselves. Even doing one small act to benefit your community each day will eventually snowball towards something greater; perhaps you could work with a team to end the opioid crisis, or figure out a way to reverse global warming, or develop a plan towards preventing declining mental health. Train yourselves to become just a bit better than you were the day before, in terms of kindness, productivity, enthusiasm, optimistic behavior, and overall well-being. I wouldn’t like to see your generation continue to struggle with the consequences that our generation has laid upon you, and to see it continue to get worse would be a tragedy. You all must be different from my generation if there is to be a significant change. As well as maintaining good behavior to support each other, you must be seeking the answer to the question: How can I improve myself to meet the needs of my community? Whether it’s your school community, sports communities, work communities, each of these can always be improved with your help. It isn’t just major world issues that will affect your future, it is also your specific communities that can determine whether you are having a fun time in a positive environment. Afterall, even if our bigger community (as big as the world) is improving based on your increased optimism, enthusiasm, kindness, and work ethic, does it really matter if you aren’t supported and not having an enjoyable journey through life? A ‘bright future’ for you all will need to be positive in every community you are involved in. Major issues such as racism and work discrimination could easily end if you all came together and accepted each other for who each of you are, in an equal and equitable manner.

Some important things to take away from this speech are to always be the best version of yourself, take responsibility for your own actions, and seek to do one thing each day to make the world a better place.

Dear Gen Z, Growing up, you have learned about many different world issues that affect your community, and the broader community at hand.
