He grew up in Detroit. Stanley is described as having been a quiet kid, who spent his time in class drawing.\u00a0 By age thirteen, he\u2019d gained fame amongst his peers for his sketches of monster-driven muscle cars. His career as an artist took off after he stared doing detailed paint jobs on vehicles. After this, he began painting on t-shirts with an airbrush, all before even starting tenth grade.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nIn the sixties, Stanley met Alton Kelley, with whom he collaborated for over fifteen years. Together, they created their most famous poster, the Grateful Dead skull and roses.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
