John William Waterhouse was born on April 6th, 1849. In his life, people would commonly refer to him by his nickname \u2018Nino.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time of his birth, his father was working as a painter in Rome. Though Waterhouse was born in Rome, Italy, his family was English, and he lived most of his life in England. Because of this, he\u2019s considered to be an English painter.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waterhouse\u2019s family moved back to England in the 1850s. In 1870, he began attending the Royal Academy in London but switched over to painting in 1874. He exhibited his work regularly at the Royal Academy and became known for his large paintings, usually depicting mythological scenes. He was associated with the pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, as well as with the Impressionist movement. John William Waterhouse passed away on February 10th, 1917, in London England<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John William Waterhouse is one of my favorite painters of all time. I was a little sad when I realized we wouldn\u2019t be talking about him in class, but at least I get to show his paintings in this blog. Usually, when writing my blog post assignments, I try to include all my favorite pieces by an artist; but in this case, I won’t get to include even half of all the paintings I like because so much of his work fascinates me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I found out about him online, when I was around 17. His paintings had a sort of magic and serenity about them that I deeply admire. The thing I like most about his work is the amount of water featured in the scenes he depicts. To me, it makes the paintings feel more mystical, and it\u2019s as if I could almost hear the water by just looking at them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
