Hello! My full legal name is Changhun Kambashi, but I go by Jerry for pronunciation reasons. I am half-Korean, half-Japanese, born in Toronto, and raised in British Columbia. I would describe myself as creative, diligent, perfectionistic, and empathetic. I enjoy volleyball, design, and living my best life. I am currently 18 years old, fresh out of high school, and excited for this new chapter of my life here at Capilano University. I am thrilled to meet new people, develop relationships, have new experiences, and be a part of a new community.
I have just started my first year in the IDEA Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication Program. I applied to IDEA because of my passion for graphic design. Ever since I was younger, I found myself enjoying the process of designing logos, posters, and even PowerPoint presentations. It was only about a year ago, did I realize that it was something I wanted to do professionally. I do not have much experience illustrating, but this program will also push me to improve that skill and many others. I also chose to go to IDEA because of the positive things I have heard not only about this program specifically, but about Capilano University as a school. Having also met all my professors, I feel reassured that I have made the right choice. With their supportive nature and the fact that they are still active in the industry, I am confident that I will benefit from this program. I expect to encounter many challenges in the next 4 years on my journey to improve and further my skillset for both design and illustration. I also expect to be prepared and given the tools to work in this evolving industry. As I have mentioned, design is what I enjoy doing, so I intend to pursue a career in graphic design once I graduate. With that being said, I am mindful of the importance of English class for achieving that goal. Admittedly, English was never my favourite subject throughout elementary and high school. However, as my program focuses on visual communication, the importance of written and verbal communication becomes imperative as well. Through the ENGL 100 course, I hope to refine anything and everything about my writing and my vocabulary in general. This would allow me to propel my professional career further once I graduate, through my ability to convey my messages competently. I want to be able to communicate and express myself efficiently and effectively through my art and my words.
It is an exciting time, and I have much to learn and improve. This is especially because I am coming directly from high school to earn my first degree and post-secondary education. I know that these next 4 years will prepare me for my future in more ways than one and that my current lack of knowledge and experience in many areas will change. I am hopeful for what I will learn at Capilano University and grateful for such an opportunity. Thank you!
