Hello My name is Colby Soolsma I am a second year student athlete and I am in the associate of arts program at none other than Capilano University. The reason i chose to study at Capilano was because of its friendly nature and small class sizes that are more catered towards my learning style. Capilano is also a great place for me to try and find some of my interests and help plan my future. I also had the great opportunity to play University volleyball on the team for the last 2 years where i have been improving my skills on and off the court, Covid 19 has affected my first year of university so technically speaking im still a first year as my teammates definitely like to make clear. The whole point of me being in the associate of arts program is to find my likes and dislikes, i have an abundant amount of options when it comes to course to choose from in order to try out various courses and fields of study. My ambition is to use my first couple of year to find my interests as i have stated earlier, i hope to gain a sense what direction i would like to go for my career path. Gaining knowledge about anything is good but especially reading and writing, writing is definitely one of my weak points and i would like for it to become a strong point for me because at the end of the day i will use writing a lot so i might as well make it something i can rely on. my goal is to get much more confident this term with my writing skills and proofreading to where i can be comfortable with my writing skills. My career path at the time you’re reading this is very uncertain, i would definitely like to pursue the sport i love and that i have loved from a very young age that sport being volleyball, however i am very aware that that is not a career path i can choose. The reason for that is there is very little money in volleyball and in order to live the life i aspire to live i need something more stable and reliable, obviously the dream would be to play on Team Canada and go play in europe and make big money like some of the pros out there, but i do in fact know that that possibility is slim but nevertheless it’s a possibility that i will put everything i have into. As for an interest of a possible career i do enjoy history, I find it fascinating to learn about what life was like and the issues of those times, i personally enjoy european history and even some egyptian history. This interest i have in history may not lead anywhere to to any profession however is is something that i have discovered i enjoy, and i discovered this this year when i took some history courses and really started to enjoy them.
