Research Plan

“How are men represented in media platforms cross-culturally?”

A possible topic of investigation for one of my upcoming Liberal Studies Tutorials might be a cross-cultural exploration of how men are represented in media platforms across the world. Because media is a platform which purveys dominant cultural ideologies, analyzing media for how it represents men allows for a visual understanding of how different cultures construct and represent masculinity. This Tutorial would examine representations of men and masculinity in media platforms cross-culturally to develop further understanding of the
plurality of masculinities, the culturally-specific dominant forms of masculinity, an emerging
global hegemonic masculinity, and the pervasiveness of media in perpetuating masculine
stereotypes.

Stocktaker counts contents of baked-bean tins.

This document outlines my current fields of interest as related to my upcoming Tutorials and final Graduation Project as part of my Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Liberal Studies. I have listed out my emerging fields of interest, all of which are Feminist-themed. This is followed by a list of six courses that I have taken at Capilano University that are relevant to my emerging fields of interest, including explanations of their relevance. After this, I explain one extra-curricular experience related to my fields of interest, followed by an explanation for my interest in these fields. Next, I provide analyses on two term papers that I have written during my time at Capilano University. Finally, I provide two sample ideas for my upcoming Tutorials.
