Douglas Coupland is a Canadian novelist, designer, and visual artist that honestly really catches my eye with all the work he does.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think it\u2019s so cool that someone who is so famed now, studied two minutes away from me at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is a man of many talents, with not only his visual works but also his books, which he has written 13. Many of them are famed just within themselves, especially his book \u201cGeneration X\u201d, which leads many people to believe that he is the one to name an entire generation!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His design work installations now have been focused more on his views politically and socially. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of my favorite pieces of his includes his ‘digital’ Orca sculpture seen near Canada Place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I personally like it because of how different it is. My thoughts when I first laid eyes on it went something like, wow this view is so pretty and why is there a lego Orca in the middle of the walkway? But it somehow doesn’t take away from the view but plays into it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another installation I actually hadn’t heard of before our lecture was his “Gumhead”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally it was just a sculpture, and whether it was planned or not, ended up covered in people’s gum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It takes on the same spin as the ‘Gum Wall’ in Seattle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
