For the first lesson let me teach you how to say Hello in Russian. A transcription is [P-R’-I-V’-E-T] with the stress on the last part of the word and with soft sounds [R’] and [V’]. Let’s repeat – PRIVET! Well done you, excellent!

Do you know, that in Russian there are 2 types of language – formal and informal?

Formal language is used when you are talking to someone older than you or a stranger to you. These can be special forms of words, such as pronounces in plural instead of singular, or some formal words instead of informal words with the same meaning.

Informal language is simplier and often shorter than the formal and is used when you talk to children, friends, or someone you know well.

For example, the word PRIVET is informal and can be translated as Hello or Hi. It is not polite and sometimes even rude to say PRIVET according to the formal and informal norms of the Russian language. You should say this in another word, which I teach you a little later. So don’t miss the lesson!

Please, add your comment under the post, ask if you have any questions and say PRIVET to me in your own language.
