Milton Glaser was a graphic designer from the United States. His most well-known designs are the I Love New York logo, a Bob Dylan poster from 1966, and logos for DC Comics, Stony Brook University, and Brooklyn Brewery. He also co-founded Push Pin Studios, New York magazine with Clay Felker, and Milton Glaser, Inc. in 1954. He produced and developed “Short Subject,” often known as “Mickey Mouse in Vietnam,” a short 16mm anti-war film directed by Whitney Lee Savage, in 1969. His work has been exhibited in exhibitions and is in the permanent collections of numerous museums across the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among designers, Glaser is most recognized for his graphic posters and record covers. His Dylan poster became an enduring emblem of a distinct era in American pop culture, while his posters for Olivetti combined his three passions: Renaissance art, Italian design, and American comic books. “I Love NY” (1977), a tourism promotion campaign in New York State amid a difficult economic moment, became a global meme with infinite variations and an everlasting icon of New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Glaser channelled his creative energy not only into business ventures but also into educational endeavours. He had been a member of the School of Visual Arts’ Board of Trustees and an instructor there since 1961. He served as vice president of the American Institute of Graphic Arts and The International Design Conference. He earned the National Design Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2004 and the National Medal of Arts from US President Barack Obama in 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
