Chapter 1: Setting The Record Straight <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n What are Comics?<\/strong> – Juxtaposed images in a deliberate sequence intended to convey aesthetic response from the viewer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pictorial<\/strong> – Has to have some resemblance to the subject, this is in comparison to hieroglyphics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Chapter 2: Vocabulary of Comics <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Icon<\/strong> – Any image used to represent a person, place or thing\/idea<\/p>\n\n\n\n Visual Scale<\/strong>: In this chapter, Scott discusses the range that visual art. complex <-> simple, realistic <-> iconic, objective <-> subjective, specific <-> universal <\/p>\n\n\n\n Chapter 3: Blood in the Gutter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Closure<\/strong> – Observing the parts but perceiving the whole. This happens off screen and can show the passage of time without the artist depicting it. In this case, it’s not about what you draw but what you don’t draw. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Gutter<\/strong> – Space between the panels – Fracture time & space <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mono-sensory Medium<\/strong> – Information can only be conveyed visually between the panels, magic happens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Chapter 4: Time Frames<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bleeding <\/strong>– When panel runs off the page. This creates a feeling of movement. This is used alot in Japanese manga. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Zip Rippons<\/strong> – Represent objects running through space. This is used alot in American Comics .<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chapter 5: Living in Line<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Syn-aesthetics <\/strong>– Relating to synesthesia & merging of the senses.
