How do Physical Injuries Affect Athletes Psychologically?
Being an athlete is hard work; you’re pushing every day to get better at something that gives you passion. Sadly many people don’t understand that athletes who face or have faced injuries are not just physically affected, but put into a challenging psychological state. Along with research and experiments, many studies have proved that many cases of depression, anxiety, lower self-esteem, and other mental illnesses appear in injured athletes. While focusing on the mental aspect of sports therapy, this essay will bring to light how a physical injury can affect an athlete’s psychological health and mindset. Through the research of different scholarly articles and a survey that I produced, my essay will introduce you to the truth about the effects that present themselves through not only the physical body but mental body as well. The goal is to enlighten people with new knowledge and a new perspective on athletes overall. There is much more to a sport than the game. It’s a pain, rehab, and recovery that makes athletes some of the most psychologically healthy people in the world.
