Barbara Stauffacher Solomon is a self-made woman full of energy and motivation to keep herself creating even to this day at the age of 93 years old. When she was younger, she studied painting and sculpture along with working and studying as a dancer as well. It wasn\u2019t until after her husband, Frank Stauffacher died after six years of marriage, that she began her career in design. She chose to study design as her past education in the arts was not a reliable income for herself and child, so she moved to Switzerland and studied under Armin Hofmann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was and still is highly influenced by her Swiss training and what she learned from Hofmann. Her ability to be disciplined allowed her to work in the massive scale that she is famous. With the influence of her training, she believes that there is no need for \u201cfancy decoration\u201d in other words you don\u2019t need serifs or the \u201csquiggles\u201d of script. Let the type and simplicity speak for itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personally, I find Barbara Stauffacher Solomon\u2019s story amazing as she started as a young single mother in the 60s and she was able through connections and mere chance to become the successful designer we all know and hear about today. Her mindset of design I think is refreshing and always keeps in mind that maintaining a simple design, makes for a more versatile use resulting in a chance to be rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
