German-born, Wolfgang Weingart is known as the father of New Wave. New Wave design was first developed by Weingart in the early 1970s and soon became very popular with the corporate culture of the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking you back to the very beginning of Weingart\u2019s career, He first studied applied arts and design at the Merz Academy. After two years of his studies he graduated and continued on into an apprenticeship at Ruwe Printing. It was there that he studied about the well-known Swiss Style and set him off to success. Influenced from what he learned he started to create his own type of \u201cSwiss Style\u201d. He motivated to explore through what he had learned and was motivated to find the perfect amount of design influenced by the International Style but take it just almost to the breaking point but never quite breaking it. This Exploration brought a new change to the way of design introducing the New Wave movement (also known as Swiss Punk Typography).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later as an instructor at the Basel School of Design (Schule f\u00fcr Gestaltung Basel), Wolfgang Weingartwas recognized for his explorations in typography where he made the type become more expressive than his initial Swiss style influence. This new exploratory typography as mentioned before was the beginning of \u201cNew Wave\u201d resulting in later years for Weingart to accomplish being awarded an AIGA Medal in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
