For my first big project in University, I was told to do a Front of Book article (famously known as a FOB). What I had to do was to mimic a the structure of the “tip” section that the “New York Times” publishes every week in their weekly magazine issue. This section talks about an “expert” in certain activity, their background, their motivation or whatever the writer may see interesting about him. They do that while the article also teaches us how to a certain activity in which the “expert” well, is expert at. I decided to talk about my friend, Patrick. He is a ex-pro football quarterback in Germany. We played for the Meppin Titans for 2 seasons until he fractured both of his hand and had to retire from the sport he love. What Patrick tries to teach us, is to throw the perfect spiral in order to make it easier for you receiver/target to grab the football.
Overall, it was a nice experience doing the FOB. I had the opportunity to talk to a person that I really felt was interesting enough to write an article about. The language barrier was a big obstacle all along, we both have different first languages, both we ended up making the article one of the best for the class of CMNS 190. The article was chosen for an illustration from the idea program, and it ended up really good. With this article, I learned to have patience. Not everything will come up the way you like, but if you work hard and ask your sources for what you want/need in your article, everything will be alright.
