Reflection I

Throughout the beginning of this course, I’ve learned that the different ways that we learn and experience knowledge affects our ability to use that knowledge later down the road. Gathering different viewpoints of the world around us expands our perspectives and gives us new windows to see the world through. Because of the different articles and pieces of literature that we’ve read through they’ve shown me a few different perspectives on learning and what different perspectives can offer for my learning.

I come to realize that have issues with believing certain things I hear right away and am always skeptical no matter where the source is coming from especially if it is a controversial story that will create a divide in the population; people will always try to push their political agenda no matter what side of the political spectrum they are on. Given this I still consider myself left-leaning; I often find myself agreeing with left-leaning news outlets such as BBC and NBC, but there will always be certain news outlets that I am skeptical of no matter what the story and no matter what the news outlet. Because of my political views I’ve noticed I tend to have a bias towards left-leaning news outlets which is something I am trying to work on as having this skew creates more skepticism towards possibly legitimate news sources.  I am visual learner and find it easiest to learn when I can draw it out in a diagram or something similar. If I go into a course with skepticism of how much I will enjoy it, it is hard for me to break that thought.

I’ve noticed that I’m similar to other students in the class with my thoughts on the environment and how it should be protected and made one of the biggest priorities for every government out there. Without a major focus on our environment countries will continue to pollute worsen the effects of climate change. This will shorten the lifetime of humans on earth, push more species of animals to extinction and make the lives of our future generations worse with the amount of damage we’ve done to the earth and harder to recover from.

From the experience so far gained in the beginning of this course, I’ve realized that I have to start to view experiences and knowledge I’ve gained from different perspectives. I can use the knowledge I’ve gained from this class in other classes and other experiences in my life and I can use knowledge from other experiences and other classes in this class. From things, I’ve learned in Archaeology about the environment and how our world is changing to deal with it to English which provides me knowledge of other people’s opinions on why our environment is changing. I use that knowledge to provide nuance and other perspectives in my writing. Having that other knowledge has affected my opinions as it informs to things that I’ve never considered before. It has opened up new experiences and will help me realize the different perspectives all throughout this world.
