Framing Reflection #1

I am of the belief that I fall into the critical paradigm as it will question political ideologies and historical thought. Its purpose is to push change within society and is for the right of free speech. This idea of free speech for all is continuously being attacked by the far-left and far-right on the political spectrum. Both sides that they themselves are whole-heartedly correct; so correct that they are unwilling to listen to anyone else’s point of view even if it is an opinion or experience based issue. It should not matter what your opinion or belief is, you have the right to free speech and expressing that opinion no matter what, so long as it’s not harming someone or a group of people. The critical paradigm pushes people to speak out against the norm and question stagnation and lack of change in, mainly, the political sphere. I believe that people are able to and should attempt to alter their reality, do not just agree with the circumstances you’ve been brought into, question them to see if your situation can be improved. You should question your surroundings to push yourself and those around you forwards.

I have had an interest in politics for a long time but always had issues with the way elections are conducted, especially with the dependence on the two-party system, and how politics and elections are portrayed in the media as a competition. Politics portrayed as a competition just push the left and right further and further which creates a greater divide in the population leading to infighting and extremes instead of compromise on issues. Instead of people meeting in the middle for an agreement nothing gets done. I believe that the fact that the critical paradigm questions all forms of foundation and control it improves everyone’s situation as it leads to change.
