Care Package Project

In many ways modern music stands at a crossroads in our current society, as we have many musicians working tirelessly to make up for those who see nothing more than profit of music. People may say that music isn’t dying, and that’s correct, but musicality what makes music worth listening to is on the fringe of losing what people have spent centuries developing those tools to give to us. Although not all music falls into this category, there are a lot of people who truly understand the impact of music. What I am referring to are the “artists” taking the same cookie cutter beats melodies, and putting them on loop until they make money. So Pop Music Artists and Culture this is a message to you.

Cesarino, Ruini “Teaching Medieval Music Today: New Approaches to Paleography and Music History.” Musica Docta, Vol 6, Iss 1, 2016, Pp 69-76.

This article is all about how we can look into the past and see what music has been. We can then use that information to better music now by referencing our predecessors. Afterwards we can then predict what music’s next developmental steps shall be. This we be important because it starts of at an early point on musics timeline and will help tie together the linearity of the other sources. Creating a more decisive message between them.

Zander, Benjamin “The transformative power of classical music.” TED, 2008, www.ted.com/talks/benjamin_zander_on_music_and_passion#t-1206719

This talk speaks of how emphasis plays a critical role in music. We can hear and decide so much using emphasis as a tool to help us. It also mentions that we all have the ear to understand what message music tries to tell us. It will relate into my paper this article wherever there must be a point made that classical music is hard and is unable to be achieved.

Kofsky, Frank “John Coltrane and the Jazz Revolution of the 1960’s.” Pathfinder, 2011.

This book is about the revolutionary jazz techniques that came into popularity in the 1960’s. I shows how they were developed and where they took origin. It also shows hw variation among artists could change drastically. It will be used idealy to express some of the ideas about where music came from. It will also tie towards my movie very well.

Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage, directed by Sam Dunn, Scot McFadyen, documentary, UMG Recordings inc, 2010 .

Rush is very new age in their ideas of music. This documentary gets in detail about where they got the ideas. Rush is absolutely one of my favorite bands so I have good prior knowledge. This ties into my care package as it shows that appreciation for music can come from multiple sources and inspirations. It doesn’t always have to mean that it’s from the “classics.”

 HARMONICO101. “Beethoven – Symphony No. 5 in C Minor (1).” Youtube, Feb. 2008, www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2qW6fOtAMY.

This is one of the most iconic pieces of classical music. It was written in the baroque era a time of great progress in music history. It has so much feel emphasis and emotion that one can find many ways to interpret it. It will play a part in my article as it has some of the most fundamentals ideals that I reference throughout the entire essay.

Thomas, Michael Tilson “Music and Emotion through time.” TED, 2012, www.ted.com/talks/michael_tilson_thomas_music_and_emotion_through_time#t-785384.

I hope that this speech wil help further the understanding of the development of music. This speech goes very well with my other sources stating more into why people have the ability to write music and for what purpose people would in the past.
