Dweck, (2015) Growth Mindset: “according to this theory, individuals accept that their most fundamental capacities can be created through dedication and difficult work—mindset and ability are only the beginning stages. This view makes an affection for learning and strength that is basic for great achievement.” However, in a fixed mindset theory students just believe their intelligence, talent, and abilities that are fixed.  The growth mindset theory explains that students should have goals to get success in their life. Dweck avoids praising intelligence of students because it leads to a fixed mindset and they will not be challenged. it harms their intelligence and motivation.

As a student or learner, I have experienced some ways which develop a mindset.  The most important key element is that accept challenges as opportunities. By doing this, we can test our capabilities. Sometimes we must face the possibilities of failure and we are afraid about that. So, that is why we do not take on new challenges. We must come out of our comfort zone and face difficulties and challenges. Moreover, we should learn from other’s mistakes instead of accepting them as well as learn from good students. For example, if I get fewer marks in class and some students get less than me. I will say that I got more than them, so I am happy with these marks. But I have wrong thoughts because I should compare myself with those students who got more than me and should say that next time, I will get more than them. It will grow my ability to achieve my goals.

When I was a first-year university student, I was afraid of failure and taking new challenges. But I had thought in mind that I can do it with my hard work and effort instead of saying that I cannot do it. I started accepting all the challenges and tried to solve all the problems.  Being a university student, I have learned more about education and other aspects of life. Competition with other students has made me stronger.

It is true that we learn things until the end of our life. So, as a student, I will learn some more strategies and apply them to my own life. Those are the following—

  1. Create a new belief- we should always make beliefs that nothing is impossible. However, it is true that we must make some efforts. The right path can take us to the mystery.
  2. Become a curious learner- we should learn from everyday experiences and new people by asking them questions about their achievements and goals.
  3. Replace the word “failure” with the “learner”- if we do something first and we fail in that, we will do it next time. That means that we have learned about something that we never know.
  4. Think about time and effort- we all know that everything takes time to learn and understand. We should keep trying to learn and give ourselves more time.

Mindset affects learning– it leads to better grades. For example, students always make math as a challenging subject. If someone has a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset, he or she will do efforts to get good grades. Then they always earn higher math grades over other students. Now here is a question that how we can develop a growth mindset? There are some ways that teachers can use:

  • Types of Praise – praising the procedure, their hard work and individual improvement over the outcome, asking your understudies to request and follow up on input. Encouraging a feeling of interest.
  • Level of Expectation – having high, testing however sensible desires for their presentation and conveying this to your replacements. This can also assist with struggling against Imposter Condition.
  • Positive Group Norms – making a development culture that qualities learning, training and advancement.
  • Helpful Self-Talk – Teaching understudies to oversee how they converse with themselves and to do as such in a positive, supportive and empowered way.

To conclude, As a learner, I will follow some ways to develop a growth mindset. I will try to take more challenges in my further life and will make efforts to succeed in them. We are human beings and always do mistakes in our life, but it is true that we always learn from them. If we try to keep ourselves in comfort zone and always run away from new tasks, we will never learn in our life. Ending with it, “hard work is the key to success”. If we want to achieve something in our life, never afraid of failure.
