Funding Your Venture Workshop

Photo Taken by: Joshua Krieger – April 8th, 2022

The workshop on how to acquire and structure acquiring capital as a small business or startup venture owner was informative and interesting. Students attending the event were quite inquisitive and asked thorough questions that applied to their individual scenarios.

I found that the fire-side chat setting for the workshop was a great idea, it is always enjoyable (as an audience member) to listen to more than one person talk and bounce ideas off one another. The added plus to fire-side chats is that it takes the pressure off of the speaker to hold continuous flow throughout the presentation. Having two voices makes the whole thing much more casual.

I particularly enjoyed it when our presenter spoke on the topic of whether start-ups should seek government funding vs. going the more traditional route through chartered banks and as an added point his reference towards the usage of credit unions and why they are beneficial once you are considered a “long-term member.”

About Me

Hello Everyone,

My name is Joshua Krieger, I am a third-year student pursuing my Bachelors of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. Post-graduation I plan to secure a position at one of Vancouver’s “Big 4” while working my way through the CPA PEP towards the CPA designation. I plan to work in public accounting for 4-5 years and then hope to make the jump to an Investment Banking or M&A role at another large Institution.

There are fun things to do on the North shore and Vancouver in general (year-round) so I try to take full-advantage of the opportunites around me. Some of my interests outside of academics/work are being outdoors (skiing, cycling, running, etc.), reading, playing with my dog, and spending time at the gym.

I am also a Director of External Relations for the Capilano Accounting Association (CAA) so if anyone has any questions, thoughts, or just want to reach out to say hey, please feel free to reach out to me!
