{"id":412,"date":"2018-11-05T15:04:00","date_gmt":"2018-11-05T22:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/joycechan4\/?p=412"},"modified":"2022-03-21T09:08:29","modified_gmt":"2022-03-21T16:08:29","slug":"131-survey-8-juan-gris-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/joycechan4\/2018\/11\/05\/131-survey-8-juan-gris-2\/","title":{"rendered":"131 Survey 8: Juan Gris"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 class=\"p1\"><strong>Juan Gris (Cubism, Dadaism, &amp; Surrealism)<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Being one of the artists who participated in the early Cubism movement, the Spanish artist, Gris adopted the avant-garde style of Cubism established by fellow artists&nbsp;<span class=\"marked_text chart-tooltip-target-top tooltip_id-picasso_pablo\">Pablo Picasso<\/span>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<span class=\"marked_text chart-tooltip-target-top tooltip_id-braque_georges\">Georges Braque. The main difference among the three is that while Picasso and Braque aimed to disrupt convention to create unorthodox, modern art, Gris focused on creating something that is aesthetically pleasing. Gris often used overlapping and sharp shapes with flat colours in his paintings. While a lot of the artist we covered in the past mainly worked on commissioned paintings for patrons and art galleries, Gris worked as an illustrator for publication design.
