Raphael started his training under his father, Giovanni Santi, a court painter. He later trained with Perugino, until he finished his training. He is known for his balanced composition, specifically his multi-figure paintings. His calm attitude dedicated work ethic compared to Da Vinci or Michelangelo launched him further into his career.

Raphael is one of my favorite artists to study and I have done a few master copies of his, specifically his drawings. When looking through Raphael’s work The Three Graces stood out to me. I love the way he uses the medium, using the red conte gives a feeling of warmth to the skin. I also find the composition he used of the multi-figures interesting in how they flow through the page.

The School of Athens

Bindo Altoviti

The Three Graces

Woman with a Veil

Disputation of the Holy Sacament

Rafaello Saanzio da Urbino (Raphael) was a High Renaissance Italian, artist, and he is considered one of the great masters of this period.
