{"id":87,"date":"2019-10-01T03:33:14","date_gmt":"2019-10-01T03:33:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/kathrinteh\/?p=87"},"modified":"2019-10-01T03:35:14","modified_gmt":"2019-10-01T03:35:14","slug":"artemisia-gentileschi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/kathrinteh\/2019\/10\/01\/artemisia-gentileschi\/","title":{"rendered":"Artemisia Gentileschi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A Baroque painter and considered to be the best of her time (among women) Artemisia Gentileschi was venerated for her dramatic realism and tenebrism.  In an industry dominated by men, she flourished despite the abundance of challenges thrown towards her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>At 17 years old, Artemisia was raped by her tutor and father&#8217;s colleague, Agostino Tassi, only five years after the death of her mother.  During the rape trial, she was tortured and had her fingers crushed to prove her honesty in the courtroom; Tassi was found guilty and exiled from Rome, though nothing was strictly enforced.
