About Me:

Hello, and welcome to my ePortfolio! My name is Lauren Harvey. I am 19 years old, born and raised in Squamish, British Columbia. I live in Squamish with my parents Heidi and Stu, younger sister Megan and my boyfriend Will. Megan and I are two years apart and have grown up as best friends. We look very similar so everyone mistakes us for twins. I wouldn’t have it any other way! Will and I have been dating since we were 16, we are now each starting our first year of university. I graduated from Howe Sound Secondary School in 2020 and made principals list for my grades. I planned for a gap year between graduating and starting my studies at university, with intentions of traveling for a year, which was put on hold as the pandemic began in the middle of my senior year.

I have a passion for traveling and the outdoors. Something about fresh air and exploring new places just make makes me happy! Growing up here has allowed for me to explore the beautiful nature that I am surrounded by, which I have found to be a form of self-care for me. I enjoy hiking the local trails with my dog Lacey. One of my favourite places that I have traveled to, has been Mexico. I love the culture, the food and the beautiful beaches. This year, instead of Mexico we explored Tofino, which takes a close second. Due to the pandemic we needed to get creative with our travel plans, and explore local hot spots; Parksville, Nanaimo, White Rock, Whistler among other places.

I have always been a hard worker; I started my first job at a hotel, in the house keeping department the week after I turned 14. I currently work in the online shopping department of a local grocery store.

I am a first-year student at Capilano University, studying Business Administration. I have always struggled with school, finding it hard to focus with all the distractions around me. Due to the pandemic and school being switched to remote learning, I found my grades becoming increasingly higher, eliminating the distractions helped me to concentrate and seemed to be a better fit for me. That is why I chose to do my first semester of university online.

For my future career plans, I am hoping to follow in my mom’s footsteps and work in the insurance industry. My mom is a fraud adjuster, and hearing about the things she does for work each day has made me more interested in that area of business. I have found over the years that it covers most of the things I am interested in, while also being a practical job for me. When I was in high school my main interests were psychology and law, when I was looking into post-secondary options, I had a hard time thinking of jobs I would want to purse with those educational paths. I am extremely nervous but excited to start this new chapter in my life!
