My name is Mattie. I’m one of those lucky people that will never find their name on a key chain or water bottle in a souvenir store because of my unique spelling. Not that that’s my goal in life, but it was always a childhood fantasy of mine. That being said, I think my name is pretty cool regardless, and I have yet to meet another “Mattie”.

I am attending Capilano University to start my degree in Psychology. I have a few career goals in mind to further look at. I have started to look into Criminal Psychology, Forensic Psychology, and Psychiatric Nursing as some options I am interested in.

Away from school, over the years I have learned to play the clarinet and piano, and have taught myself how to play the ukulele. Music is a big part of my life, and I can guarantee I will always have a headphone in playing something unless i’m in class or at work. A second close to music for me is reading and writing. To me, there is nothing more satisfying than a good ending to a book you’ve been hooked on. Some of my favorites are The Great Gatsby, Go Ask Alice, and Milk & Honey.

Along with reading, I have developed a strong love for journaling and writing. I focus on writing more short stories, or personal journal entries but both in my mind have definitely helped get out emotions and strengthen a few of my writing strategies. Through my writing class back on the Sunshine Coast, I have been published in two anthologies, and am currently waiting to be published in one called Finding Hope in Vancouver.
