A self reflection on my entrepreneurial potential and the results from the BDC Entrepreneurial Self Assessment
After Completing the Entrepreneurial Self Assessment provided by the BDC, the results were certainly surprising to me. While I always thought I could become a successful entrepreneur, I scored below the entrepreneurial mean in the general profile, aptitudes, attitudes and motivations categories. This would imply that I do not share a mindset with typical entrepreneurs. furthering this assessment, there were only 3 categories in which I matched or exceeded the mean entrepreneurial response, those being Creativity, self confidence and ambition. Despite what the survey says however, I believe I could be a successful entrepreneur. Many of my low scores seem to be affected by how I am ok working for someone else and I don’t need to be my own boss. And while it is true that being your own boss is one of the top perks of becoming an entrepreneur, I think my willingness to work for someone else could allow me to gain additional information on the pillars of successful entrepreneurship, without any of the negative “learning experiences” that they have gone through. In addition, I score equal or higher on what I believe are the 3 most important traits for an entrepreneur to have, those being Creativity, Self confidence and ambition. This shows, at least to me that I am still capable of being a successful entrepreneur, despite what the survey says.
