Rupaul’s Drag race is an American reality competition series produced by world of wonder where Rupaul search for America’s next drag superstar. Rupaul represents as a host, mentor and head judge for the entire series. She is been seen engaging with the contestants with different challenges each week. ‘’Amazing Concept!’’, that was my reaction when I first watched it with my best friend when I had a sleepover at her place the last summer.
From walking down the runway twice, to what song is chosen for lip sync I believe every next movement in this show was creating a hilarious energy into me to watch more of it. I like how every season had different themes which are beautifully accepted and done by the drag queens. Mentioning a lot about the word ‘’drag queen’’, I would love to bring it in the light of a definition of what I feel it is. I always use to get confused about what exactly it means but after watching this show I kind of feel confident about this term and how it is a highly rated profession too.A drag queen is a man who dresses up in women’s clothes, typically for the purposes of entertainment. Like if we see in context with rupaul’s drag race we tend to see the contestants who are usually males or gay men’s who wear a little too much of makeup, extra-long nails, hair way more than a normal female would have and style different from what a regular female would wear. I think that’s what gives a clear picture about a ‘’drag queen.’’ This show is highly entertaining and has a lot of viewers. A person who watches this for the first time would really enjoy it as how hilarious these contestants and the concepts are added into the show.
This show is not all about a regular photo shoot or ramp walk with some stylish clothes put on just like we see in America’s next model and India’s next top model. In every challenge in this show Rupaul’s is seen as an encouraging hand and I believe every person in that kind of competitive field needs it. She makes her statement bold and clear. ”If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell can you love somebody else?” a statement by Rupaul in the show. I like how every new season remembers the previous one which makes it so overwhelming for the audience to remember the last season they must have watched. I think it also gives a picture of how every season is expected to grow a little more than the previous one and is tougher and challenging. For example; the season 8, episode 1 shows us how when they had to walk with the theme connected to the last previous seasons themes. I think it was pretty smart to do it because all the drag queens pretty much made it a fresh look for the audience and the judges.
The funniest part I believe about this show is when all the queens de-drag themselves. ‘’the de-dragging process is the most exciting for me because I want to see what everybody looks like a boy’’, this is a statement given by one of the contestant in the show. There are instances when the audience cannot even recognize which queen was the one during their de-drag process. This American reality show is has a lot of ranking and I think the contestants in there are representing there real drag style encouraging other drag queens to show up their talent. It is a good platform for these drag queens to show what they really have and in addition to that their hilarious comments makes this show pleasing to people out there.
