They are used to communicate a more direct message, whereas comics can be more subtle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Closure<\/strong> &#8211; Observing the parts but perceiving the whole.  Our brains are able to recognize and connect an action or motion within panels fully\/smoothly, even with pieces missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Comics<\/strong> &#8211; Juxtaposed pictorial and other images in deliberate sequence. Though comics are often seen kinda casual, sometimes like a stream of consciousness, everything is very intentional. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Craft<\/strong> &#8211; Applying knowledge and skills into constructing the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Form<\/strong> &#8211; The material or style of which you will execute an idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Idea\/Purpose<\/strong> &#8211; A discovery of what the work&#8217;s content will be and what intentions you have with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Icon<\/strong> &#8211; Pretty much anything drawn to represent an object. It can be realistic, used to write language, ambiguous, and even simplified down to two dots and a line (as Scott McCloud demonstrates).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Idiom<\/strong> &#8211; The style or genre that the work will be in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Line Weight<\/strong> &#8211; Can be used to set the emotion\/mood of a character or setting. For example casual, sketchy line-work can be conveyed as more naive while structured line-work as more serious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Panel<\/strong> &#8211; Work to hold (or not hold) the visual story being told and is used to show the passing of time and space through a comic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Picture<\/strong> &#8211; A specific visual representation of something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sound<\/strong> &#8211; Words help to communicate actions and reactions in a comic. It plays a crucial role in creating tension within time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Structure<\/strong> &#8211; The beginnings of composing work, not yet executing, but planning out more fully how it will be executed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Surface<\/strong> &#8211; Finishing touches and producing the work from a marketing standpoint, &#8220;superficial&#8221; stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Synaesthetics<\/strong> &#8211; Various types of art that appeal to different senses in a unified way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cartoon &#8211; A drawing focussed on simplicity, often with little to no panels.
