I chose to do my spread on the the Glasgow style of design that originated out of Scotland in the mid 1890’s. This style was all about elongated figures with decorated elements similar to that of the art Nouveau movement, topped off with many borders.

These were the main elements I sought to depict in my spread. I really wanted to embody the Glasgow style and I think I did achieve that with my enlonged figure illustration as well as the borders and earthy colours that I used. I painted my spread in goache, and through the translation of this medium I think the spread became a little messy looking and I wanted the colours to be a little less bold. Next time I would definitely try to be a little more careful in the execution of the spread but none the less I still do think the main point of the Glasgow style is shown and for those reasons I’d give my spread an eight out of ten.

Works Cited

Chang, Ted, and Jean-Christophe Loubet del Bayle. “Glasgow.” Glasgow and the Art Nouveau Style, aroundtheworld.phileas-fogg.net/art-nouveau/glasgow.html.

“Charles Rennie Mackintosh: Making the Glasgow Style, Walker Art Gallery.” Creative Tourist, www.creativetourist.com/event/charles-rennie-mackintosh-making-the-glasgow-style/.

Espinosa, Natalie. “Designing the New: Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Glasgow Style.” American Federation of Arts, 17 Oct. 2019, www.amfedarts.org/charles-rennie-mackintosh-making-glasgow-style/.

“Glasgow School.” Wikipedia, Wikimedia Foundation, 27 Oct. 2019, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_School.

“The Glasgow Style.” Theglasgowstyle, www.theglasgowstyle.co.uk/.

I got assigned to make a spread on design for week six.
