English 100

I have learned many things through the course of this class. I have learned how to locate my resources to find each mistake in my writing. All I have gained from taking this course with Andrea Actis, my professor, will be helpful to me in the years to come. The class took me on a journey of learning, acquiring new skills and uncovering an unknown side of me as a writer. I heard positive input on English 100 class from my companions, and I thought it would be solely about bettering our grammatical skills and composing various papers. I am now able to write a persuasive paper that offers supportive arguments enough to respond to potential opposition. In addition, I now know how to write an essay that requires research materials from library or website sources. I can directly deliver a concept to a particular author and credit them by referencing the materials. I can represent the idea in my own way without losing the initial plan or copying a sentence in my paper and putting quotation marks to show that it is a borrowed sentence to avoid plagiarism. We have annotated plenty of texts throughout this course, making me a stronger and more thoughtful reader than ever before. The difficulty of the readings created the challenge of understanding the text promptly while thoroughly annotating it with a precise balance of quality and quantity. Writing analysis papers was not only a new type of essay writing for me, but it required me to refer back to my annotations and think deeper about why I was having specific opinions on a text to develop an argument. Whether it is reading, writing, or even speaking, the significance of everything I have mastered and will continue to learn in English class will allow me to have fate in the way I express myself in the future. I also found ways to draw myself in assignments when I could to help me complete them. I’m a bit sad that the classes were not in-person. But, in the end, the experience was good, and I learned a lot.
