GESTALT’S PRINCIPLES

FIGURE/GROUND
This poster for Melbournes Food & Wine Festival is a great representation of Gestalt’s Figure/Ground principle. Upon first glance the graphic can be perceived as either three wine bottles or if viewed in reverse, can be seen as a fork. The use of figure/ground perfectly touches on the two main components of the poster, food and wine.

CLOSURE
This simple graphic is an effective use of Gestalt’s closure principle, If you really look at the image for what it is, it’s just oddly placed pentagons and fragments of the shape. However, the principle of closure helps prove that our brain is able to complete the image without needing an outline and we can make it out to be a soccer ball.
