How to Manage Working From Home

As the world predicts more months of social distancing and quarantine, employees globally are adapting to working from home. Working from home (WFH) can be an enticing idea, however it requires trust from all employees and can often be very stressful. As I personally navigate through working from home, I have adopted habits that help me stay motivated and relaxed.

5 Tips to destress and get sh** done

  1. Start your morning with exercise. It doesn’t have to be a huge workout or running a marathon, but a few movements will give you energy and endorphins.
  2. Get dressed. You don’t need to wear a suit and tie, but it often helps getting changed out of your sleep wear to feel like you are in routine and ready to start your day. This also helps when random zoom calls come up (Cue the rush to get out of pjs when the boss calls)
  3. Make a list- making a list every morning (either big or small) will help you stay focused. Plus is feels amazing and can relieve anxiety when you get to cross items off.
  4. Try to set a time when you need to finish by. It can be really easy to be constantly logged in when working from home. Some jobs require immediate response, but make sure you aren’t losing sleep due to the feeling of needing to be active 24/7. It can be stressful when you see a colleague answering emails at 10:45pm and feeling like you should be too. Remember, everyone is working different hours that work best for them when working from home.
  5. Hydrate and eat well and move every 20 min. This is a time where you can focus on nutrition and save yourself from the Whole Foods hot bar that you normally would hit up 5 days a week. Make sure you take your 30 min break to walk around, cook, and eat. This will help energy levels and ease stress and anxiety.
