This iteration of Liberal Studies 335 : Grand Challenges took an interdisciplinary approach to addressing the complex task of fostering an ecologically vibrant environment in local waters. Participating students conducted a shoreline cleanup and waste audit on Gambier island, visited a North Vancouver district wastewater treatment facility, and had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with numerous key stakeholders including, but not limited to : private marine tourism company owners, researchers from the department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, representatives of the Port of Vancouver, local environmental activists, and more.
