Not only was he inspired by cezanne like other artists of this era but also inspired by technology and cubism. These paintings were created for proving his theory of \u201c the way to achieve the strongest pictorial effect was to juxtapose contrasts of colour, of curved and straight lines, and of solids and flat planes\u201d (Britannica). Within these paintings he focused on Chiaroscuro which was the illusion of three dimensionality created with lights and darks.\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/scottmcdonald3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9749\/2019\/11\/pnt_leger_fernand_3-The-card-players.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-215\" width=\"174\" height=\"174\" \/><figcaption>The Card Party<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The card party was influenced by his service in WW1 as a military engineer on the front lines. After being released from the army in 1917 he went on to create the card party. He thought of this work as \u201cthe first picture in which I deliberately took my subject from our own epoch.\u201d This was his first work to be believed in the mechanical period. This encapsulated his interests in a variety of machinery.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/scottmcdonald3\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9749\/2019\/11\/pnt_leger_fernand_5-The-Three-woman.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-216\" width=\"174\" height=\"173\" \/><figcaption> Three Woman 1921 <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This was considered his masterpiece of his mechanical period because it was a combination of humans and machinery.
