When you first are getting started using WordPress you may find yourself confused when you first make a search for the site and find two options, WordPress.com and WordPress.org. While these may seem as if they should be the same there are a few key differences that may cause you to prefer one or the other, the first key difference is in terms of hosting, while on .org you host your own webpage on .com hosting is included. This causes .org to provide quite a bit more freedom than .com does, for example, you are unable to remove WordPress’s ads and branding from your webpage. Further, on .org you can select your own domain, the downside to this being that you are responsible for paying for your own domain, but for those who want a more customized look, it may be worth the cost. Personally, I would elect to choose.org when creating my website, this is because I would prefer having control over branding and ads that are displayed on my site, as well as being able to choose my own domain.
