I put the Typo In my Typography Zine<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I had never heard of a zine until this project. It was great learning about something used in the design field. The weirdest thing that intrigued me was how the paper folded to create a little booklet. A zine is a self-published mini-booklet that contains art from an artist, showing each page as its unique artwork. Zines could tell a visual story or be informative.

My zine is on Edward Johnston and on the font he created in 1913 called Johnston Sans. The company commissioned Johnston to create a typeface that was to use for the UK Underground System. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I carefully considered my creative choices. I made my colour components limited to Red, Blue, Black and White. White space is like gold, hence why I wanted it to emphasize the importance of Johnston’s contribution to the modern typeface.

I used hierarchy, size, colour and form to create visually intriguing pages. Individual pages could be considered a piece of art or as a combined composition. I used mainly one typeface throughout. It is Johnston Sans, some calligraphy and my handwriting. Johnston was known as the father of modern-day calligraphy hence the inclusion of calligraphy typeface and cursive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
