<\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\nWhat is the “Negative”?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Today we point and shoot, no need to wait for the final result. It is instantaneous. In the 1800s (Even the 1900s), it took effort and skill because one photo would take forever to capture and develop. Nic\u00e9phore Ni\u00e9pce created the first world negative image, using sheets of silver salts coated paper at the back of a camera obscura(example below). Silver salts were what changed the paper’s colour while in sunlight, turning it black. The image of nature was successfully first captured in 1816.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first picture of a people (small people) was taken by Louis Daguerre, a French artist and photographer. The image(below) consisted of buildings, trees, smoke, shadows and amidst all of that, a man and a shoe shine boy at the corner of the sidewalk. He perfected the camera obscura that Ni\u00e9pce invented and it was called the Daguerreotype\u00a0. Ni\u00e9pce was in partnership with Daguerre until his death in 1833.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

William Talbot created the calotype. A photography method that resulted in a faster development time than the Daguerreotype. He lost friends due to his patent for this invention. Talbot refused to share his knowledge with others. He created a method that revolutionized the photography evolution. “Photolyphic engraving” was part of this process by using printable plates and muslin screens to capture the mid-tones in photographs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is astonishing how we have so many options and pairings that we can use on cameras today. How could someone think of this brilliance? This can show that you can create something revolutionary that can change the course of history forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
