Born in 1410 and died 1451in Germany, Stefan was regarded as one of the finest painters of the \u201cschool of Cologne\u201d, and had a soft oil painting style based off of Jan Van Eyck, Netherlandish art, and early Cologne school works, as well as a mystical religious theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/terencezhu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9750\/2019\/09\/display_image.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-70\" width=\"822\" height=\"588\" \/><figcaption><em>The Last Judgement, c. 1435<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-very-light-gray-background-color\">  His earliest work \u201c<em>The Last Judgement<\/em>\u201d(1435) was mellow and dark, but still held a strong sense of a climactic drama. After meeting Jan Van Eyck, the piece showing his new learning the best would be \u201c<em>Altarpiece of the Patron Saints of Cologne<\/em>\u201d(1445), as the colours feel more saturated and livelier than his older works with the usage of oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/terencezhu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9750\/2019\/09\/display_image-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-72\" width=\"937\" height=\"480\" \/><figcaption><em>Altarpiece of the Patron Saints of Cologne, c. 1445<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-very-light-gray-background-color\">\n\n  One of Stefan\u2019s more famous and well recognized pieces is\u201d<em>Madonna in the Rose Bower<\/em>\u201d(1448), this piece shows off Stefan\u2019s soft and bright style the best.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eportfolios.capilanou.ca\/terencezhu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9750\/2019\/09\/display_image-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-73\" width=\"445\" height=\"565\" \/><figcaption><em>Madonna in the Rose Bower, c. 1448<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:left\" class=\"has-background has-very-light-gray-background-color\"> The last two pieces shows Stefan\u2019s growth as an artist well, as the \u201c<em>Sts Anthony the Hermit, Cornelius and Mary Magdalen with a Donor<\/em>\u201d(1445) was painted in the middle of his career compared to \u201c<em>Saints Matthew, Catherine of Alexandria and John the Evangelist<\/em>\u201d(1445) which was one of his last works.
