Introduction
Hello everyone, Welcome to my page. This is a short about me page that introduces my experiences and current study status in Capilano University. I am an international student who came to Canada fours years ago. My hometown is Shanghai, a beautiful coastal city in China. I spent most of my life there with my friends and family. When I came abroad to Canada, I studied in New Westminster Secondary School which was far away from the North Shore. During my high school, I met my best friends and developed my learning strategies so I really appreciate this experience.
Experience in Capilano
My major program in Capilano is Early Child Education. In this program, I learn about the educational theories and the current education system in BC. I met many peers in this program who have similar or different perspectives as me on the ECCE project. Every discussion with them makes me learn something new in this period. The study experience in ECCE is very different from that of my friends in other programs. We have many curriculum courses and also practicum courses. I enjoyed the curriculum courses which taught the knowledge of handcrafts and material using which is similar to my interests. Also, this class benefits the children in creative thinking and imagination.
The practicum course gave me a chance to interact with the children and the children’s center. The routine and settings in the children’s center surprised me because they broke my inherent thought. I used to think that the children center should have many popular toys, worksheets, and projects to show the parents. However, in the SFU childcare society, they work in a different way. When I came into the center, there were only a few toys which have only way to play with them. Most of the toys provides opportunities for the children to play in a creative and open-minded way. There were also many natural materials for the children to explore. The experience in this children’s center makes me have a clear image of what is the center. Children’s center is a place that children can free play and explore with their whole bodies. Educators in the centers should support and participate with the children.
Interests
As I mentioned above, I am interested in handcrafts. I have some products like paint, clay, and papers. I have made two explosion boxes for my friends as a birthday present and for myself as a collection for my pictures. The explosion box is a big hand-making product which includes many small gimmicks in it. Most of the time, people can paste pictures/photos on the gimmicks. When open the lid of the big box, the content will spread out like a bomb.
Also, I painted the wall in my room with decoration which took me a month to finish. I enjoyed handicrafts and the time in exploring with the materials.
In addition, I spent my break time on animations. I have collections of plastic toys of my favorite characters in Marvel Universe and Japanese animations. All of them are the most worthy products in my mind. They document the image and lives of the character and record when and how I love them.
