I was in the Survey 8 timeline group for this project. I decided to base my study upon Theo van Doesburg launches the De Stijl movement, the invention of band-aids, and the US enters World War 1.
These events affected the world in very different ways, and I was able to explore a variety of subjects through this research assignment. Brainstorming about the effects was interesting, and I narrowed my ideas to the ones I could find evidence to support my points.
The images that are included on the board add value and examples to the kind of effects the event had on fashion, science, architecture, typography, and many more fields.
Something that I found particularly interesting is the De Stijl period. The kinds of colors they used and the fact that it stayed limited to the Netherlands only! I couldn’t help but wonder how many more artists around the globe would have been a part of this magnificent period if the ideas spread further.
Another takeaway I had was that the silliest problems that we ignore, once solved, can create something that the whole world can use. What better example of that than a band-aid!
I would give myself 7.5-8 out of 10. I followed the brief while working on this assignment. I’m happy with how it looks as this is my first time using Invision boards. I was also pleased with the way the text and images came together to tell a story. So overall, a 7.5-8 is the score I would give myself for this project.
