About me

My name is Yehor Skrypchenko, and I’m working on my Associate of Science Degree. I came to Vancouver this summer with a direct flight from Germany. Before that, I spent half a year being moved around Central Europe after leaving Ukraine in the February of 2022. Before February, I lived all of my life in Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine. Unfortunately, I had to relocate due to the start of the war. Later, I spent a lot of time registering for a Canadian visa. During my stay in Europe, I visited quite a lot of places I never imagined myself ever visiting, sadly not as a tourist but as a refugee. Nevertheless, I spend that time of year moving from place to place and helping other Ukrainian refugees.

I have been interested in computer science and its applications for quite a while now. However, it was nothing more than a hobby up to around a year ago. Then I started taking it more seriously and seeing what I could do with it. I have only a little experience in computer science itself, but it is elevated by my knowledge of web development. Recently, I became more interested in computing simulations and, already knowing the basics, started learning more advanced topics. However, considering just how broad this area of computer science is, I am looking for somewhere to branch off into something smaller and more understandable. Also, I am pretty interested in neural networks. However, this area is too complex for me now, so for the time being, I am just learning the basics. There are already small projects I have made in the neural network field.

I have many hobbies, but sadly, I had to give up some of them in Canada. One of them is judo, which I have done for about 10 years. I went multiple times to country-level tournaments, occasionally scoring high enough to win someplace. Unfortunately, it is hard to find a good judo place nearby, and all of my required equipment is left in Ukraine, so I have to train on my own for now.

In Vancouver, I started spending more of my free time on cooking because of just how much more diverse it is here in terms of culinary ingredients. Maybe it’s all because of people from all over the world bringing their own cuisines to Vancouver. At least, that’s what I think it is.

Also, I began spending a lot of time in nature. Though not surprising, considering that British Columbia is one of the most unique places in North America in terms of environment, I still enjoy exploring various trails, especially in Lower Seymour Conservation.
