Mood Board Rational 141

My mood board centres around Cleopatra, as she was the first topic I chose from the survey list. When thinking about which other topics I could link to her I opted for other historical female figures. I ended up choosing Joan of Arc and Queen Victoria to discuss alongside Cleopatra. I liked the large gap of time between each of these women, as It lets you see what was cutting edge for their individual time period, and how the world constantly evolves. For example, both Cleopatra and Queen Victoria lived in periods with vastly different clothing styles, but both wore heel-less, paper-woven sandals. I learned a handful of things, the first being that wearing makeup for both men and women was extremely common in early Egyptian BC. This fascinates me, considering how in our modern era men are still considered “odd” or “female-like” for wearing makeup. In ancient Egypt eyeliner and eyeshadow didn’t see gender! Additionally, I learnt that Joan of Arc didn’t actually fight in the hundred Years’ War. Rather, it’s suspected if anything she accompanied soldiers to the battlefield and acted as a mascot, waving a flag instead of a weapon. I was quite disappointed to find her myth-busted. Overall I would give myself a 7/10. I spent approximately 4 hours on my board and enjoyed arranging the visuals. If I had spent a bit more time adding the final touches to my board I may have graded myself higher. I’m also unsure if I was able to create solid links between all my topics. I tried to keep some similarities in the imagery ie. each topic had pictures of clothes from that era/attire, each topic had a self-portrait and a design element (Egyptian jewelry, French architecture, and Victorian Stamps). I’m looking forward to see how others critique my effort to link my topics.
