Our first actual drawing assignment of the program is a yearbook spread! I was super excited for this prompt as it is a very fun way to learn and express facts about everyone. I also never got around to drawing myself seriously before and hopefully I did my visage justice.

When brainstorming, I was immediately reminded of the character introduction sheets in manga (I recently bought an Ouran High School Host Club box set so manga has been on my mind). I felt like it would be a fitting idea for this, and I played around with the format to have the spread feel like an embellished student file. Originally, I wanted to implement more images and drawings, but with the formatting and concept it always felt out of place so I scrapped it.

Overall I am a bit dissatisfied with the look of the spread but I do like individual parts of it. I am really happy with the way I drew myself as it is usually something I hate to do. I also feel like the line work is quite good for me. However, formatting and text has always been one of my weak points and I am not very satisfied with it this time around.

I would give myself a B- for this spread as I think the pieces and idea of the spread was promising, but the execution is lacking. Due to my inexperience with text and the font software on the Macbook, I kept with the limited Procreate text options. I also did not know what to do with the background so there is a lot of wasted space, leading to a wall of text and lack of visuals. I spent a little over 7 hours on this project, but the majority of that time was spent on drafting, formatting, and anatomy. If I were able to do this one again, I would try to explore less rigid concepts and play around more with colour palettes and shading.
