Visual Research II: Proximity

By SCHINAKO MORIYAMA

Proximity states that similar elements placed closely together have implied relation. Sometimes, this closeness forms a greater shape. This illustration uses bunnies as its similar figure, bringing them close together to form a heart.

The bunnies, while not similar in their positions, are stylized the same way. They all have thin, delicate linework, no patterns, and flat colours that don’t quite stay within the line. Each blotch of white overlaps with another in the center of the page, making them appear as a pack, rather than individuals. Their poses invoke a look of natural movement, but they are strategically angled to fit within the confines of the heart-shaped barrier.
